The RHRG75120 from onsemi (formerly Fairchild Semiconductor) is a 1200V, 75A hyperfast soft-recovery rectifier diode with a 100ns reverse recovery time, avalanche energy rating, and low forward voltage of 3.2V. Built on a silicon nitride passivated ion-implanted epitaxial planar construction and housed in a rugged TO-247-2L package, it is designed for free-wheeling and clamping in switching power supplies, PFC stages and power switching circuits.

The RHRG75120 is a 1200V / 75A hyperfast rectifier optimized for soft recovery and short reverse-recovery time. The diode reaches a typical trr of 100ns at the full 75A forward current (di/dt = 100A/µs), which minimizes switching loss and reverse-recovery ringing in hard-switched topologies, while the soft-recovery characteristic suppresses electrical noise and reduces stress on the companion switching transistor.

With a 1200V repetitive reverse voltage and 75A average rectified forward current (TC = 42°C, 20kHz square wave), the RHRG75120 is intended to be used as a free-wheeling clamp diode and output rectifier in higher-voltage power supplies, boost PFC pre-regulators, inverters and motor-drive snubbers. It is avalanche energy rated (EAVL = 50mJ), giving extra ruggedness against transient over-voltage events.

The device is supplied in the JEDEC TO-247-2L (TO-247AC two-lead) through-hole package with the cathode connected to the mounting tab for efficient heat transfer to a heatsink, and it is RoHS compliant / lead-free.

Terminal Configuration & Polarity

The RHRG75120 is a two-terminal rectifier diode (Anode and Cathode). Observe correct polarity when mounting:

  • Anode (A): Positive terminal in forward conduction; one of the two package leads.
  • Cathode (K): Negative terminal in forward conduction. On the TO-247-2L the cathode is internally connected to the metal mounting tab (back of package), so the heatsink-side metal is at cathode potential - isolate the heatsink if it must stay at a different potential.

Current flows from anode to cathode when forward biased; the diode blocks up to 1200V when reverse biased (cathode positive with respect to anode).
