The TDE1897RFP is a monolithic intelligent high-side power switch from STMicroelectronics, fabricated in the Multipower BCD process that merges bipolar control, CMOS logic and DMOS power on one die. It delivers up to 0.5A of output current from an 18V to 35V supply and is designed to switch inductive and resistive loads in industrial equipment. The datasheet covers the TDE1897R and the closely related TDE1898R, and the FP order suffix denotes the SO20 surface-mount package.

Unlike a bare power transistor, the TDE1897R surrounds its output stage with a full set of on-chip protection and diagnostic functions. Differential control inputs with a wide common-mode range and built-in threshold hysteresis give clean, noise-tolerant switching, while an undervoltage lockout keeps the output off until the supply is valid. An internal clamp holds the output pin down to roughly -Vs to -45V during turn-off, providing fast demagnetization of inductive loads such as relays and solenoids without relying on an external freewheeling network.

For host feedback, the device drives two diagnostic outputs plus a dedicated output-status pin that can directly drive a status LED, and it includes open-load detection so a microcontroller can distinguish a healthy load from a fault. Protection comprises internal current limiting, thermal shutdown and open-ground protection, which together make the part rugged and largely self-protecting in harsh industrial environments. It is also offered in Minidip (TDE1897RDP) and SIP9 (TDE1897RSP) packages.

The TDE1897RFP is supplied in the SO20 package, a wide-body 20-lead small-outline surface-mount package with gull-wing leads on a 1.27mm pitch. Of the 20 pins, eight carry signal and power functions and the remaining pins are not connected, which provides creepage spacing and a thermal path appropriate for the 0.5A output stage.

Typical SO20 mechanical data from the datasheet are a body thickness of 2.35mm to 2.65mm, a body length (D) of 12.6mm to 13mm, a body width (E) of 7.4mm to 7.6mm and an overall lead span (H) of 10mm to 10.65mm, with a 0 to 8 degree lead coplanarity angle. The package is lead-free and RoHS compliant; standard SOIC-20 land patterns and reflow profiles apply. The same die is also available in Minidip (TDE1897RDP) and SIP9 (TDE1897RSP) for through-hole and power-tab assembly.

The TDE1897RFP uses a 20-pin SO20 package in which eight pins are functional and the rest are not connected. The functional pins (top view) are:

• Pin 2 - GND: Ground / power return.
• Pin 4 - OUTPUT: High-side power output to the load.
• Pin 6 - SUPPLY VOLTAGE (Vs): Positive supply, 18V to 35V.
• Pin 10 - OUTPUT STATUS: Output-state indication, can drive a status LED.
• Pin 14 - DIAGNOSTIC 1: Diagnostic output 1.
• Pin 15 - DIAGNOSTIC 2: Diagnostic output 2.
• Pin 17 - INPUT+ : Differential control input, positive.
• Pin 19 - INPUT- : Differential control input, negative.
• Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 16, 18, 20 - N.C.: Not connected.

The eight functional pins correspond one-to-one with the nine-lead SIP9 version. Decouple Vs to GND with a ceramic capacitor close to the device. Confirm the exact pin assignment against the datasheet image below before layout.
